Decided to make just one thread housing most of what I do, so here goes.SS oil pan.  Flange is laser cut from 1/4", body is made of 14ga and corners are slices from 3"x.065 tube.Custom fittings for 2" SS pipingLast edited by sn0border88; 08-04-2009 at 09:11 PM.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:I agree, very nice work.Welding is top notchMechanical Engineer
Reply:great work where can i buy the flange or a 1969 sbc 327
Replyimple for the drain was done in a press, 3" pipe on the outside, 1.5" OD tube on the inside.  Pumped it down until I got the depth I wanted. The dimples on the side was done in the brake, with some creative use of custom top die/muffler bender bottom die.Heres a bumper I made for a jeep conversionI know, theres a gaping hole between the bumper and tailgate but thats how they wanted it.Last edited by sn0border88; 08-04-2009 at 10:11 PM.Have we all gone mad?

Replylease don't ever look at any of my posts.  Your welds are sweet!  Also, excellent photo series!(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Hey how much to make me 2 stainless steel oil pans that would fit a 99-03 for 7.3 Diesel.  I don't do enough stainless to make them myself.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:Havent updated this in a while so here goes. Some random boxes, either mirror finish stainless or aluminum treadplate.5"x.065 Stainless tube.  We had already made it and sent it to the customer some time ago, but he sent it back and said he wanted it polished.  I says "that whole thing, mirror finish??"   So I cut it apart at the weld so it would be easier to work with, tarted out with normal mill finish mandrel bends and slowly (took 6 hours total) polished it out and welded it back together. Reply:A more complex oil pan, however I cant see to find the pictures of the outside.Have we all gone mad?
Replyat's nice......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Just to prove I sometimes dabble outside of .065 stainless, heres a personal project of mine.  I think the pictures might be on here already, but who wouldnt want to see this again?BeforeAfterHave we all gone mad?
Reply:And something a little... heavier.Something looks out of place here...2" Stubs?  Ha!Dont mind the top 3", Im not sure what I was trying to accomplish there with my bead sequence but it didnt work out very well. All done for nowHave we all gone mad?

Reply:I missed the customer part (a d d + old age = ?).In my neck of the woods there has been an awful lot of stuff come out of toolrooms and model shops that didn't belong there. Some guys didn't mind doing the work but many did. There was too often an expectation that the free stuff going out the back door needed more care and better appearance the the employers stuff.Matt
Reply:That is some beautiful heliarc welding.  I am most impressed with your craftmanship.  Are you using a pedal when welding?
Reply:On that stuff I used the pedal because it was all bench work.  Thanks for the compliments so far.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:Its been a busy past few weeks, working at the shop near my house while im home for winter break.  So take one of theseAdd some of thisLet it cool, and you get this.Welded with 350A EN 220 EP, advanced squarewave, 80% balance 140Hz.Then this little gem came along.  Stamped milk bucket started cracking at the bottom, it wont be used for milk anymore but it still had to get patched up for other non food stuff. Its thin alright.Someone elses attempt at a patchBucket worked out to be 29ga, patched with 18ga.  Welded with 180 amps (seriously) .08 PPS 5% Peak 3% Background, no filler.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:Those oil pans are OEM replacements for semi-trucks, think 30-50qrt capacity.  Yes, they have turbos but I dont know what the bungs are for exactly.  Could be oil return line for the turbo, some are for other kinds of oil coolers.Have we all gone mad?
